UAW Local 3044 Update 7/08/10

SAFETY PLEASE READ

Safety does not discriminate, machinery does not care what race you are, male or female, or rank and file it will injure us all the same.  Please if you see an unsafe act or witness ANYONE doing something unsafe please comfront the situation.  We do not want to see one single person injured and I know our membership will do the right things as we always have to ensure our safety.   PPE requirements are changing at a very rapid pace, as our rules and regulations.  If these changes do not make sense or are unclear please contact a steward or representative and most of all get in touch with management to discuss these changes and your concerns. SAFETY AUDITS SAFETY AUDITS SAFETY AUDITS... IF YOU ARE ASKED AND ARE BEING TOLD YOU ARE ABOUT TO HAVE A JSHA AUDITED ON YOUR WORK PERFORMANCE PLEASE SEE THE WEINGARTEN SECTION BELOW........

Temp Assignment Overtime

Membership approved at the June regular monthly meeting to amend the agreement for people in temporary assignments (not contract temporaries) to have their hours averaged and be allowed to work overtime per our collective bargaining agreement.  If anyone has any questions feel free to contact me at any time.

UAW Local 3044 Golf Scramble 2010

We will be having a golf scramble this year at the Summitt Country Club in Owensboro, KY.  The two dates for the scramble are Monday August 30th for A/B Crews and Wednesday September 1st for C/D crews and TPM employees.  The rules are the same as the past as each team must have two active local members.  Cost for the scramble is $40 per person which will include lunch.  To enter your teams please contact Mike Noble,  or Chris Wells.

WE HAVE COPIES OF WEINGARTEN CARDS AVAILABLE PLEASE USE THEM.

PLEASE READ!!!!! AFTER THE DISCIPLINE IS HANDED OUT AND INVESTIGATIONS HAVE TAKEN PLACE IS NOT THE TIME FOR YOUR UNION REPRESENTATIVE!!!
WHEN THE QUESTIONS OF WHAT HAPPENED ARE BEING ASKED IS WHEN YOU NEED YOUR UNION REPRESENTATIVE!!!

Know Your Weingarten Rights:

They apply only during investigatory interviews.  An investigative interview occurs when:

  1. management questions an employee

  2. the employee has a reasonable belief that discipline or other adverse consequences may result.

The employee can request union representation before or at any time during the interview. An example of this type of interview is when we have an incident and you are asked to write a brief description of what happened.  Yes they will say its so they can just have a clear idea what happened but it is also a form of investigative interview so remember don't hesistate to ask for your representation! When in doubt ASK!!!

If then employer denies the request for union representation and continues the meeting, the employee can refuse to answer questions.  Stewards must be allowed to advise and assist the employee in presenting the facts.

Remember - an employer does not have to inform an employee that he or she has a right to union representation -

YOU MUST ASK FOR YOUR UNION REPRESENTATION

IF FOR ANY REASON YOUR ARE DENIED REPRESENTATION CONTACT ANY STEWARD, EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBER, OR CALL MY CELL IMMEDIATELY! IT IS NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND YOUR REPRESENTATIVE ITS MANAGEMENT'S SO IF YOU ARE EVER TOLD TO FIND YOUR OWN REPRESENTATIVE WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ASAP

DRUG TESTING FOR INCIDENTS IS ALSO A FORM OF AN INVESTIGATION AND YOU ARE ENTITLED TO REPRESENTATION
Also asking for a written statement on a event that took place is a form of investigation as well so if you are asked to give a written statement contact your union steward or board member prior to submitting anything in writing

Arbitrations/Grievances/Upcoming Meeting with CEO

We will have updates on the status of all grievances at the upcoming union meetings.  Please plan to attend as we intend to have some detailed discussion surrounding these.   We are making progress and will continue to work to resolve these in our monthly meetings with management.  September 17, Jim Wainscott has agreed to have an open discussion with all the labor unions in Ohio.  I would like to hear from each and every union member between now and that time.  It does not matter if you are 12 year or a 12 month employee your input is important and crucial.  The purpose of this meeting is to create an open dialogue between the labor unions and Mr. Wainscott.  This is not a giant gripe session or a rewrite of the labor agreements.  We all have a good idea on the issues that face our facilities and many are similiar in nature.  I realize that we are all working a lot of hours and attending union meetings is not always possible for some. So if you can not attend a monthly meeting between now and September please do not hesistate to call me or any Executive board member at the numbers below, email, text message or whatever form of communication you prefer.  We appreciate your feedback and look forward to hearing from you.   I will be reviewing the feedback at the union meetings in the next couple of months as we prepare for September.
